Research & Development

PBR’s research focus is on the development and validation of analytical tools and diagnostic assays useful in drug discovery, product safety evaluation, biomonitoring for exposure to toxic, mutagenic and carcinogenic agents and environmental monitoring of chemical contaminants. In addition, we employ our scientific and technological resources to undertake client sponsored research projects. Our research team includes highly qualified and experienced scientists and technologists with broad expertise and capabilities in various scientific fields

 Contract Research

PBR undertakes contract (client sponsored) research projects customised to meet their specified needs and requirements. We work in diverse areas of cellular and genetic toxicology, microbiology and immunoassay technologies applicable to safety of pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, medical devices, food and natural health product and antimicrobial product development. PBR also participate in research projects aimed at human health protection, environmental impact assessment and biomonitoring. Specifically, these research services include the provisions of study design and direction, and customized solutions to enhance clients business, product development and environmental protection. PBR’s major clients include contract research organizations and industrial clients engaged in pharmaceuticals, food, natural health products, agriculture, nutraceuticals, and health as well as public sector clients.

 In-House R & D Program

PBR is committed to maintaining a strong in-house R&D program to foster innovation and benefit from rapidly developing and growing technologies. We work in close collaboration with public research institutions and universities in an effort to augment our research capabilities.

Current research includes:

  • Bioassay development and validation for rapid screening of mutagens, carcinogens and environmental estrogens.
  • Method development for screening antimutagenic/anticarcinogenic properties of nutraceuticals, antioxidants and natural health products.
  • Application of nanotechnology and cell-based systems for developing high throughput in vitro toxicity testing methods.
  • Development or modification of technologies and analytical methods for rapid detection of microorganisms in food, water, soil and indoor air.
  • Application of analytical chemistry tools in developing and validating novel methods useful in environmental monitoring and site remediation and restoration.
